No Changes for Franklin Co. Rec Commission

CHARLES ROBERTSON, WLHR

There will be no changes to the Franklin County Recreation Board at this time.

A change to the county ordinance governing the current rec board for Franklin County was proposed in last week’s work session and addressed by Commissioners this week. The change would have abolished the current Recreation Commission said County Manager Beth Thomas.

“What the ordinance would have done, in essence, is dissolve the current parks and recreation commission, which is quasi-government entity, and created a parks and recreation advisory board,” said Thomas.

Thomas said the commissioners did not vote to approve the change.

“There was a motion to approve, there was a second, which led to some discussion, in the end the motion did not pass. It was a 1 to 4 vote,” she said.

The lone vote in support of the change was given by Commission Chairman Thomas Bridges.
