Public’s Help Sought in Lavonia Dollar General Armed Robbery

Lavonia Police are continuing their search for an individual who robbed a Dollar General at gunpoint.

It happened late last Thursday night at the Dollar General on Jones St. in Lavonia.

According to Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle, the suspect was captured in surveillance video.

Carlisle says they do have some good leads already.

“We’re continuing to review the videos and we’ve actually come up with some very good leads as to who this individual might be; some of his characteristics,” Carlisle said.

Carlisle said the Dollar General was robbed around 10:48 p.m. just before the store was set to close.

He says the suspect is described as a slim, white man, between the ages of 18 and 21, and is between 5’8″ and 5’10” tall.

“We’re still a little up in the air as to whether he had a getaway vehicle. He came in one side of the store and exited from another side, which could indicate that he’s from the area as well,” Carlisle explained.

According to Chief Carlisle, the suspect entered the store just after the last customer left, and was in and out in about two minutes.

Carlisle says he does not believe the suspect poses any immediate threat to the community…

“I believe that this may have been a crime of opportunity; the time that it happened, right at closing. It’s somebody who obviously knows the workings of Dollar General and how they do their closing at the end of the evening,” Carlisle noted. “We’re looking at all those things and getting it out to the public. Anyone who has any information on this subject is asked to contact us. And again you can remain anonymous.”

Anyone with information on who the suspect in that armed robbery might be is asked to contact the Lavonia Police Department at 706-356-4848.

You do not have to give your name.
