Rec Department Joins New Soccer League

Stephens County Recreation Department is partnering with North Georgia Rapids, a premier soccer club.

The rec department has had a soccer program for four years, but according to Executive Director Richard Adams, this league will improve the program.

“They’ll furnish the experienced coaches,” said Adams. “All we’ll be doing is furnishing the fields, they’ll be doing the scheduling. The smaller age groups will stay at home and play, the rest of them will be traveling around. I’ve done a thorough check on it, it’s a great league. We’re not getting any better at our soccer the way we’re going so we want to improve it. Everybody in the area belongs to it, so we decided to join it too.”

Some of the other counties in this league include Habersham, White, Franklin, Rabun and others in the northeast Georgia area.

Adams said the league is run by professionals.

Age groups start at 3 & 4 and go up to 12U. Signs ups are online and there is one onsite registration.

“To sign up for soccer, go to www.rapidfutbolclub.com and follow the registration link,” said Adams. “If you have any questions, contact 770.314.3770. The registration deadline is August 31 and there will be one on-site registration at the rec department at Saturday, August 5 from 11-1.”

Soccer season will begin mid-September.
