The North Georgia Credit Union is celebrating 75 years of service to the community with the grand opening of its new offices in Lavonia.

Doors officially opened earlier this month for customers, but last Thursday local leaders, Credit Union board members and employees along with members of the Lavonia DDA and Chamber cut the ribbon that officially welcomed the new offices to the town.

North Georgia Credit Union President and CEO Brian Akin said he is thrilled with the new facility.

“We’re extremely excited about the new building,” he said. “We’re looking forward to serving the community even better than we’ve done here in the past. This opens up a lot of possibilities for us and we’re just excited about the future now.”

The old offices in Lavonia were small and at the end of a strip mall across the street from the new offices on Georgia Highway 17.

Akin said the new, larger offices offer some new conveniences for customers.

“The biggest they’re going to enjoy right away is the drive-thu,” Aiken said. “At our other locations across the street, much smaller in the store-front space and we didn’t have a drive-thru. Now we’ve got three lanes of drive-thru and that makes it much more accessible for our members.”

The North Georgia Credit Union has three locations – in Lavonia, Hartwell, and Toccoa.
