Rural Development Council Meeting in Toccoa this week

The House Rural Development Council is holding its next meeting tomorrow and Friday at North Georgia Technical College’s Currahee Campus in Toccoa.

The council was created by House Resolution 389 during the 2017 legislative session and will work with rural communities to find ways to encourage economic growth. They are touring the state through the summer and fall and have already made a stop in Tifton, Georgia.

The meeting in Toccoa will be tomorrow from 12:30-5 p.m. and Friday from 8-11:45 a.m.

Members from the Stephens County Development Authority will be attending the hearing, and Executive Director Tim Martin will be giving a presentation.

Toccoa Mayor Jeannette Jameison will also be attending and says that it’s important for this council to hear what challenges rural communities are facing.

“I think they need to hear exactly what our challenges are,” said Jameison. “We’re like every other community, we’ve got challenges, we know it’s labor, we know it’s housing. They need to hear it because there’s several things the state can do that would have a state-wide affect and help address these problems.”
