SCHS Basketball Splits Home Opener With Franklin Co.

Stephens County splits a non-region basketball night with Franklin County.

On Saturday night, the Indian and Lady Indian basketball teams hosted the Lions and Lady Lions in the home opener at the Currahee Arena in Toccoa.

In the girls’ game, Franklin County led throughout on their way to a 39-29 win over the Lady Indians.

The Lady Lions outscored the Lady Indians in each of the first three quarters, leading by five points after one quarter, eight at halftime, and 11 points after three quarters.

Mya Cleveland scored nine points for Stephens County to lead the Lady Indians, while Kaitlan Knight added seven and Tykia Thompson scored five points.

Kayla Russell led the Lady Lions with 10 points.

The loss drops the Lady Indians to 0-3 on the season, while Franklin County’s girls are now 3-1.

Moving to the boys’ game, Stephens County led throughout on the way to a 61-41 win over Franklin County.

The Indians led by just three after one quarter and by six at halftime, but outscored the Lions by 14 in the second half to pull away.

Deundre Singleton led the Indians with 17 points, while Chaz Bridges and Ty Nails each had eight points for Stephens County, who saw nine different players score.

Keandre Morrison scored 18 points to lead Franklin County, who also got 11 points from Phoenix Roberts.

Stephens County’s boys move to 2-1 with the win, while Franklin County’s boys fall to 1-3 with the loss.

The Lady Indians and Indians are back in action Tuesday at home against White County.
