SCSO Arrests Man Wanted in Westminster for Attempted Murder

Stephens County authorities apprehend a man wanted in South Carolina on a charge of attempted murder.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, authorities were told to be on the lookout for a vehicle entering Georgia by way of U.S. Highway 123 from South Carolina late in the evening of June 19.

Shirley said the driver, 43-year-old Scott T. Conquest of Westminster, South Carolina, was wanted for the attempted murder of his wife using a baseball bat.

The sheriff said that one of his deputies saw a vehicle matching the description traveling south on Highway 123 near Riverdale Road and attempted to pull the vehicle over.

He went on to say that the vehicle then attempted to elude the deputy and the pursuit continued towards Toccoa, where Toccoa Police were notified and joined in.

According to the sheriff, authorities were able to stop the vehicle near the intersection of U.S. Highway 123 and Tugalo Street and take Conquest into custody.

Westminster, South Carolina Police Chief Dean Awalt said Conquest is now in custody in Oconee County, South Carolina after he was extradited by Georgia authorities.

Awalt said the incident happened at a home on S.C. Highway 24 in Westminster and resulted in the woman being hospitalized for multiple injuries.
