SCSO Deputy OK After Being Hit By Car Wednesday

A Stephens County Sheriff’s Office deputy is doing well after an accident on Wednesday.

Sheriff Randy Shirley said it happened when his office responded to a call on Wednesday evening.

“They received a 911 call to go to a residence on Whisnant Street regarding a domestic dispute,” said Shirley. “Upon arrival, there was a physical altercation between a husband and wife with children present. After the investigation was complete, they made an arrest of the husband. After placing him in the car and clearing the scene, the deputy realized he left the suspect’s telephone on the hood of his car.”

Shirley said that deputy, David Kiser, went to retrieve the phone but it then fell onto the ground and the accident happened when Kiser went to pick it up.

“He went to pick it up and an incoming van struck him in the head,” said Shirley. “He was sent to Stephens County Hospital by paramedics and a scan revealed there was no internal damage, no swelling of the brain or anything. His complaint was dizziness.”

The sheriff said Kiser was released from the hospital and is recovering.

Shirley went on to say that it was just an accident and he is grateful that everyone is okay.

“The van was going very slow because it is a narrow road on Whisnant Street,” said Shirley. “The lights had blinded the driver. The driver was not at fault. He certainly did not intend to hit the deputy. He felt so bad about it, but everything is fine. The deputy is going to be fine.”

Shirley said Deputy Kiser was expected to be back at work last night.

The Georgia State Patrol also responded to the accident and handled the official investigation of the incident.

That investigation was completed, according to the sheriff.
