Second Town Hall Meeting Scheduled for Saturday at Historic Courthouse

If you missed the first County Town Hall meeting in January you have another chance to attend one this Saturday.

A second Town Hall public forum will take place Saturday at 2p in the Historic County Courthouse.

The brainchild of Stephens County Commission Chair Michelle Ivester, the forums are designed to give the public a chance to express their concerns about county matters as well as ask commissioners questions.

Turnout was good at the first town hall meeting in January and at the time Ivester said she was impressed with the kinds of questions she fielded.

“I thought the turnout was great, especially with it being the first Town Hall we’ve had. There were a lot of great serious questions asked,” she said.

One of the main topics at the first meeting had to do with what the county was doing to help its senior citizen population.

Ivester said senior citizens are always a top priority for the county.

“Senior citizens are at the top of our list of priorities, they’ve lived here most of their lives and they’ve paid their fair share in taxes, so it’s only fair that we take care of them,” Ivester continued. “We will continue to see that they have things to do at the Senior Center.”

But Saturday’s Town Hall is not just for senior citizens, according to Ivester.

Anyone interested in attending is welcome and all issues and concerns may be brought before Ivester and any other county commissioner attending.

Again the second Town Hall public forum will be held this Saturday, April 21, at 2:00 p.m. in the Historic Court House’s Court Room.
