St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital hosting “Living Well” Seminar

If you find yourself struggling with ongoing health issues, you might want to take advantage of a new workshop that will be offered in Lavonia later summer.
It’s called the “Living Well” workshop and  it’s being offered by St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital and Legacy Link.
St. Mary’s spokesman Mark Ralston said the workshop is for anyone facing the challenge of living with ongoing health issues.
“Living Well course is a six-week workshop that’s designed for people who have cronic conditions to help them live full and more active lives,” said Ralston. “This group will primarily be for older adults but any adult is welcome.”
The Living Well seminar is a six-week workshop that will be held every Wednesday afternoon beginning August 2nd from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia.
Ralston said the goal is to increase the participants’ self-confidence in their ability to manage their health concerns on a daily basis so that they can enjoy life even with chronic health conditions.
According to Ralston the classes will allow participants to learn ways to better manage their conditions.
“This course is going to deal primarily with cronic conditions, things that affect people over long periods of time like high blood pressure, stroke or diabetes,” said Ralston. “It will be looking at things like introduction to exercise, medication management, even how to get a good night’s sleep when you have a condition that interferes with your ability to sleep.”
Other topics that will be covered include making informed treatment decisions, dealing with depression and positive thinking, and setting achievable goals.
Ralston said this is the first such seminar offered by St. Mary’s Healthcare and the class size will be small, between 15-20 people.
He said that’s in order to create an environment where participants can share their experiences and learn through interacting with the facilitators and each other.
And because of the smaller class size Ralston says it’s important to register now.
“The course is in August but because enrollment is limited in order to keep the class size small for maximum interaction, it’s a good idea to go ahead and sign up now. It will be first come, first served.”
The Living Well seminar is a free course.
And while there is no enrollment fee, participants must commit to attend at least four of the six sessions.
