State ACT Scores Surpass National Average

ACT test takers have shown significant improvement throughout the state of Georgia.

Comparatively, Georgia students’ composite scores were higher than the national average.

For the entire state of Georgia, the average composite score of 24.1 was higher than the national average of 21, for the second consecutive year and the second time in Georgia history.

Georgia also outperformed the nation in English, reading, science, and mathematics.

Between 2013 and 2017, the number of students taking the ACT in Georgia has increased by almost 9,000 students.

In Stephens County, the high school had 64 students take the ACT; the cumulative average was 20.1, right at the national average.

Stephens County Principal Scott Kersh praised the students “They have worked hard at their academics and we are proud of that” says Kersh.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods says the scores are a testament to the hard work of Georgia’s students and educators as they enjoy greater flexibility and fewer state restrictions in the classroom.
