Stephens Co. Commission To Meet Today

Stephens County Commissioners will consider a motion to extend a temporary moratorium for signage within the unincorporated portions of Georgia Highway 17 in Stephens County at their meeting this morning.

The county commission will meet at 8:30 a.m. today in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

During the meeting, the county commission will consider a 90-day extension of the temporary moratorium for signage along the unincorporated portions of Highway 17 from the Franklin County line to the intersection of the Toccoa By-pass and then continuing along the By-pass until it reaches the Habersham County line.

County commissioners originally passed the moratorium in February while work continued on a sign ordinance proposal for Stephens County.

Work on that sign ordinance continues and county officials have not yet set a date for when a proposal could come before the commission.

The moratorium passed by commissioners in February was for 90 days and covered only new signage on the 17 corridor larger than size 4 feet high by 8 feet wide.

Also on the agenda for today’s Stephens County Commission meeting is a proposed amendment to the Fiscal Year 2017 budget calendar.

Today’s 8:30 a.m. Stephens County Commission meeting also allows time for public comment.
