Stephens Co. Hospital to Celebrate 80th Anniversary

Stephens County Hospital is celebrating its 80th anniversary later this month.

On Sunday, July 30, the hospital is hosting an outdoor event, themed “celebrating our past and reaffirming our future.”

Hospital Administrator Lynne Anderson said that this celebration is an accomplishment.

“We are very excited about it,” said Anderson. “We’ve been in the community for 80 years and that is quite an accomplishment. We were 30 years at the site over by Tugalo where the health department is now and then we’re 50 years at the site where we are today. We just want to celebrate our history and reaffirm our future.”

The entire community is invited to the event, which will include a recognition of past and present employees, board members, physicians and more.

Anderson said that the beginning of the event will be outside, with David Fry from the symphony playing music and then an invocation by Brian Shelton.

“Then we are going to have an invocation by Brian Shelton who is the provost at Toccoa Falls College,” said Anderson. “This is important to us because TFC actually donated the land that the hospital sits on today, so we’re very excited about our relationship with TFC. In particular, because they’re starting their nursing school this fall and I think that was part of the entire dream, that they would have a nursing school, a hospital and prepare individuals for healthcare in the future.”

The rest of the day will include a welcome by Chairman of the Hospital Authority Board Mark Wilkinson and recognizing past and present employees, board members, physicians, people who were born in the hospital and others.

There will also be memorabilia old photos in the main lobby and a reception in the cafeteria.

Anderson said that they hope the community will come and help the hospital celebrate.

The event is from 2-5 p.m. and the public is invited.
