Stephens Co. Indians Split Doubleheader Against Luella Lions

The Stephens County Indians and Luella Lions split a doubleheader last night in the best of three series in the AAAA State playoffs round of 16 in Locust Grove.

The Indians took the opening game 7-4. Davis Swenson went the distance pitching and got the win going seven innings allowing four runs on 12 hits and striking out seven.

Luella took a 2-0 lead to the 4th inning. In the top of the 4th, Dawson Dean and Austin Page had back to back singles, and Cole Beitzel tripled in both runners and scored on a throwing error to give the Indians the lead at 3-2.

Luella regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with 4 hits in the inning. Stephens County took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th when they sent nine to the plate.

Page led off with a double and went to third on a throwing error, Beitzel reached on an error scoring Page,Bryson Fowler reached on an error and was replaced on the bases by Ben Hobbs, Swenson reached on an error and was replaced on the bases by Griff Pruitt, Dylan Huff singled scoring Beitzel, Dawson Sorrells singled scoring Hobbs and Kole Rogers singled scoring Pruitt.

Sorrells, Rogers, Dean, Page, and Beitzel each had two hits, and Beitzel had two RBI’s to lead the attack.

In game two, Luella took advantage of two big innings scoring four runs iin each the 2nd and 5th innings to win by a final of 8-3. Left- hander Josh Chapman got the complete game win for the Lions. Stephens County had RBI hits from Beitzel and Gabe White. Beitzel had three hits in the game, and Rogers and Fowler added two hits each.
