Stephens Co. Relay for Life was Successful Event

Relay for Life of Stephens County hosted their Relay for Life event last Friday, May 5.

Due to weather implications, the event was moved inside the Stephens County Recreation Department. Community Manager for Relay for Life Cameron Lopez said that despite the rain, the event was a success.

“It was wonderful,” said Lopez. “We had about 300 people from the community come out and support Relay for Life. We had entertainment, our ceremony, food and raffles, and all kinds of fun stuff that was going on.”

Community members, survivors, caregivers and volunteers walked around a track through the duration of the event. Teams were set up around the track selling t-shirts, raffle tickets and food for proceeds that went to the American Cancer Society.

The next event that Stephens County Relay for Life is hosting is the first ever Bark for Life event on Saturday, May 20th. Lopez says that Bark for Life is a festival to recognize the dogs’ ability to support a cancer patient.

“Really it’s to highlight the care giving qualities that a dog has for a cancer patient,” said Lopez. “A lot of times, cancer patients have those wonderful K9 companions that they don’t get to include in Relay for Life.”
