Stephens Co. Schools to have Early Release on Aug. 21 due to Solar Eclipse

At their meeting Tuesday, the Board of Education approves an early release for August 21 due to the total solar eclipse.

The solar eclipse will occur Monday, August 21 and, according to NASA’s website, this is the first time in 99 years that a total eclipse has hit the U.S.

14 states across the country will experience total darkness for about two minutes in the middle of the day, including Georgia.

The board decided on an early release for Stephens County Schools at noon on that day.

According to Superintendent Bryan Dorsey, the board decided on an early release so that families can participate in community activities centered around the eclipse.

Several school systems in surrounding counties are also releasing early or having no school in session on that day.
