Stephens Co. Sheriff’s Office Participating in “Click it or Ticket”

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with other law enforcement agencies across the state in operation “Click it or Ticket.”

From May 22nd to June 4th, Deputies will be conducting safety checkpoints to ensure seatbelt usage. They will also be issuing citations to drivers and passengers who are caught not wearing their seatbelts.

Sheriff Randy Shirley says that it’s important to raise awareness about seatbelt usage, especially in the summer months.

“It’s during the summer months when motor vehicle accidents increase,” said Shirley. “While we cannot stop all accidents from happening, it’s our hope that by enforcing the seat belt law, we can perhaps save a life when an accident does occur.”

This statewide campaign is to help increase seatbelt usage because, according to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, almost 50 percent of people killed in motor vehicle accidents in 2015 weren’t wearing their seatbelts.

The seatbelt check points will be in areas throughout the county.
