Stovall Scholarships and Band Awards announced

The Steve Stovall Music Scholarship Foundation will send several Stephens County High School Band members to Summer Band Camp.  The Foundation was established in 1974 in memory of Steve Stovall who was student conductor of the band.  Almost $250,000 has been given to support the Stephens County band program and its students, and according to Brent Stovall, chairman of the Foundation, it is due to the generosity of the community.

This year, three band students and the two drum majors for the upcoming marching band season will receive music scholarships to attend Marching Band Camp at the University of Georgia in June.  The drum majors were announced Tuesday night at the Band’s Annual Awards Night—they are CJ Fleming and Bethany Watkins.  Also Eric Sullivan, Hannah Littleton, and Alex Watkins will attend marching band camp.

Among the other awards presented at the Band’s Awards night were the Director’s Awards which were presented to auxiliary members Sarah Bridges, Rylee Dickinson, and Gracie Jordan; and band members Noah Bourne and Cassidy Zheng.  Every year, the band gives out two “Scholastic Achievement Awards” to two seniors with the highest GPA’s.  This year, they were presented to the class valedictorian, Cassidy Zheng, and the salutatorian, Christopher Carringer, who were both in the band program.
