TFC Baseball Finishes Second in Region

The Toccoa Falls College baseball team will now wait to see if it makes the NCCAA World Series after falling just short of an automatic bid at the region tournament.

Last Thursday through Saturday, the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles traveled to Palm Beach Atlantic University to participate in the NCCAA South region tournament.

With an automatic bid to the NCCAA World Series on the line, the Screaming Eagles entered the tournament as the third seed.

Toccoa Falls opened the tournament on Thursday with a 4-3 win over Trinity Baptist, but were handed its first loss in the double elimination tournament by Palm Beach, 5-4.

TFC staved off elimination by defeating Selma University, 8-5, and Trinity Baptist, 11-0, on Friday.

In the first action on Saturday, Toccoa topped Shorter University 11-5 for its third consecutive win.

The win on Saturday morning set up an afternoon rematch with the tournament’s lone unbeaten team and the host team, Palm Beach Atlantic, in the championship round.

After winning its fourth straight elimination game with a furious comeback, 8-7, to force a winner-take-all championship game, the Screaming Eagles’ improbable run fell short in that final game as they fell to Palm Beach Atlantic, 4-0.

TFC Baseball Coach Justin Pollock said of his team that they were tasked with playing 7 games in three days and they showed what they were made of.

Pollock said he is incredibly proud of the way they fought and battled.

With the 4-0 win over TFC, Palm Beach punched its ticket to Mason, Ohio, while Toccoa Falls, at 26-21 on the season, will be forced to wait and hope for an at-large bid to the NCCAA World Series.

The Screaming Eagles have attended each World Series since 2009 and left Ohio as national champions in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
