Toccoa Commission Meeting Today

Toccoa City Commissioners will consider an agreement to sell water to Banks County at their meeting later today.

The city commission meets today at 5 p.m. at Toccoa City Hall.

On the agenda for consideration by the commission is the consideration of a Banks County Water Sales Agreement.

City commissioners first talked about a potential agreement with Banks County regarding water sales in August.

Under the proposal put forward at an August work session, the city of Toccoa would guarantee 100,000 gallons a day to Banks County but note that it could provide up to 240,000 gallons a day.

Also under the initial proposal, the city would pay for the 53 feet of pipe needed to connect the systems and Banks County would burden much of the cost by installing the meter vault.

Another item on the agenda for Toccoa City Commissioners to consider today is a proposal for the Toccoa Police Department to have the ability to administer Narcan.

City commissioners unanimously approved a first reading of this last month.

Under the proposal, Toccoa would receive a grant that would purchase the nasal form of Naloxone and provide training for police and fire on how to properly administer the drug.

Naloxone is a drug that could help save the life of someone who has overdosed on opioids.

Prior to the city commission’s 5 p.m. meeting today, a work session is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. for discussion of health insurance renewal.

Both the work session and the regular meeting of the Toccoa City Commission are open to the public.
