Toccoa Commission Places Priority on City Hall Renovations

Toccoa City Commissioners say that city hall is the next priority on their SPLOST VI project list.

Monday, the city commission discussed SPLOST VI allocations during a work session.

City Manager Billy Morse said that after completing the first couple of priority projects on Toccoa’s SPLOST list, staff needs direction about what to do with future SPLOST VI revenues as they come in.

“The SPLOST dollars come in lump sum every month,” said Morse. “There have been a couple of projects that we have expedited, the city pool and the financial software. But after those two projects, we do not have a priority necessarily.”

Morse said that the city could choose to allocate the money proportionally, dividing each month’s SPLOST VI revenue by percentage based on what category of SPLOST VI project was set to receive as a total.

However after discussing the projects, city commissioners focused on City Hall renovations.

Morse said that the building is in need of work.

“It needs some roof repairs first,” said Morse. “Then, you come inside and do some things with the flooring.”

Commissioners, including Jeanette Jamieson, said that they feel that the renovations to City Hall need to be the next priority.

“If we can prioritize the city pool, which I understand why that is important, we can prioritize fixing this building,” said Jamieson.

$300,000 of Toccoa’s projected total SPLOST VI revenue is designated to go towards City Hall renovations.
