Toccoa Starts Summer Movies Tonight

A busy summer of events in downtown Toccoa gets underway tonight as Main Street Toccoa opens up its annual series of summer movies.

This is the 3rd annual series where Main Street Toccoa will show a movie every Thursday night in June and July at the Schaefer Center, located on the corner of Broad and Doyle streets in downtown Toccoa.

Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said the city is excited to offer this once again this year.

“We have a great lineup for it,” said Crosby. “We are just really looking forward to it being a great year.”

Crosby went on to say that the city is also excited to use its new 30-foot movie screen this year for the movies at the Schaefer Center.

“I think people will really enjoy that,” said Crosby. “They will really feel like they are in a theater. We have a new projection system. I think people will see a real difference in the movies themselves from other years.”

Tonight’s first movie in the Summer Movie Series at the Schaefer Center is “Paddington.”

Crosby said she feels “Paddington” is a great way to start off the summer.

“Paddington is a delightful story about a Peruvian bear who is sent to London actually and when he gets there, he is kind of lost and a nice family takes him in,” said Crosby. “It is about his adventures in the city of London. It is a very family-friendly, PG-rated movie. It is made for children, but I think adults will enjoy it as well.”

Other movies in June include “Guardians of the Galaxy” on June 11, “Maleficent” on June 18, and “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” on June 25.

All of the movies, including tonight’s, start at 7 p.m. on Thursdays at the Schaefer Center with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and all admission is $1 with $1 concessions.
