Toccoa, Stephens Co. Commissions To Meet Today

Two local boards will meet later today.

Toccoa City Commissioners and Stephens County Commissioners will both meet for regular meetings later today.

The Toccoa City Commission is first as it will hold a work session with the city’s Downtown Development Authority at 2 p.m. today at Toccoa City Hall.

Then, the city commission will meet for its regularly scheduled meeting at 5 p.m.

During its 5 p.m. meeting, the Toccoa City Commission is expected to consider a number of agenda items.

Those include two public hearings for annexation requests, a report from Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin, and two ABC license applications, and a memorandum of understanding for Georgia’s Exceptional Main Streets Program.

Meanwhile, Stephens County Commissioners will meet at 5:30 p.m. today for a regularly scheduled meeting.

The county commission will meet in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

County commissioners will start with a second public hearing and reading on proposed changes to the county’s nuisance ordinance.

According to Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers, the proposed changes have to do with putting more strength into policies approved by the county commission last year for the county’s trash convenience sites including a 10-bag limit at the convenience sites, no dumping outside the gates, and household garbage only at the convenience sites.

Also during today’s meeting, county commissioners are set to continue discussions about a possible sign ordinance for the county, and receive an update from Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin, among other items.

Both the Stephens County Commission and Toccoa City Commission meetings are open to the public.
