Toccoa’s Christmas Fest named one of Top 20 Events in Southeast

Southeast Tourism Society has named Toccoa’s ChristmasFest one of the STS Top 20 Events in the Southeast for December 2017.

The STS Top 20 Festival and Event Awards have highlighted programs around the Southeast since 1985.

Travel industry experts select 20 events per month, and the STS publicizes them throughout the U.S.

Events considered for the STS Top 20 recognition must be at least three years old and have attendance of at least 1,000.

According to Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby, to be considered for this list, you must apply.

“You have to apply and fill out a nomination sheet that’s fairly extensive,” said Crosby. “They ask all kinds of questions about the event, it has to be an event that’s been at least five years and they ask a variety of questions concerning it. They let you know but not everyone is accepted into it.”

The City of Toccoa’s 2017 Christmas Fest is December 1st and 2nd in the Historic Downtown area, featuring carolers, a live nativity, horse-drawn carriage rides, “Toccoa on Ice,” which brings ice-skating to Northeast Georgia and more.

Crosby said they chose this event because they want it to grow.

“We feel that it’s one of our growing events, now with the ice skating component, it’s been growing,” said Crosby. “We would like to have people from farther away coming as well.”

Crosby said that having Christmas Fest on this list will help more people learn about it.

“We think it will help to spotlight the event and we’ll get better coverage, of course they’ll promote it as well,” said Crosby. “And we can promote it as a Top 20 event and hopefully that will encourage people to come.”

The complete list of the highlighted events is published on both the Southeast Tourism Society and Travel Media Press Room’s websites.
