Wheeler Accepts Athletic Scholarship from Point University

Another Stephens County athlete has signed to play football in the fall for Point University in West Point, Georgia.  Brandon Wheeler, son of Brandon Wheeler and Michelle Scott, will play for former Stephens County alumnus and Point head coach, Julius Dixon.  Brandon plans to major in physical education.

Brandon tells why he decided to go to Point University, saying “The campus is really quiet, and there’s a lot of places around campus for you to do. It’s just a great place to be.”

As a member of the Stephens County football team, Brandon played defensive back, wide receiver, and returned kicks.  Last season, Brandon returned both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns.  He says he is willing to play whatever position they need.

“I just plan to go and do whatever they tell me to do,” he said.

Stephens County’s Micah Oglesby has been a member of the Point University football team the past 2 seasons, and Coach Dixon says he is glad to have another Indian join his team.

“We’re excited that Brandon chose Point University to continue his education and football career. He could have went to so many other colleges, but he chose us. We’re just ecstatic to see what the future holds,” Dixon said.

Julius Dixon just completed his 2nd season as the Skyhawks head football coach.  Point University competes in the NAIA division.
